🪐 Forecasting M6+ Earthquake by Planetary Alignments

M7.8 Turkey earthquake

Following a devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the loss of life and infrastructure damage is truly tragic. Twelve days after the disaster, the latest reports from officials indicate that more than 46,000 people have lost their lives and over 84,000 buildings have been severely damaged, requiring urgent demolition or collapsing entirely.

The Anatolian Plate is a tectonic plate located in the eastern Mediterranean region that covers a large portion of Turkey. This region is known for its frequent seismic activity, with earthquakes occurring due to the interactions between the Anatolian Plate, the African Plate, and the Arabian Plate.

In recent years, Turkey has experienced a number of devastating earthquakes, including the earthquake in Izmir in October 2020 and the earthquake in Elazig in January 2020. These earthquakes were caused by the movement of the Anatolian Plate, which is a complex and active area where the plate is squeezed between the Eurasian Plate to the north and the African and Arabian Plates to the south.

Feb 3rd prediction for Turkey earthquake

On Feb 3rd, a Netherland researcher, Frank Hoogerbeets made a tweet that predicted there will be a large seismic activity for the following days. He said sooner or later, there will be a ~M 7.5 earthquake, pointing the region of Turkey - Syria which Anatolian plate located. Frank is researcher in SSGEOS, Solar System Geometry Survey, that has been monitored seismic activity due to planetary alignments.

Planetary alignments and seismic activity

Some researchers have suggested that the gravitational forces of the Moon and other planets can influence the Earth's tides and geological activity, including earthquakes. However, the majority of scientific studies on this topic have found no clear evidence of a link between planetary alignments and seismic activity.

There is ongoing scientific research exploring the potential link between planetary alignments and seismic activity, but the relationship between the two is not yet well-established.

The seismic activity on earth tend to occur more often when planets and the moon reach specific positions in the solar system, which explains the usual clustering of larger earthquakes in time.

The main content that Frank updating was there would be a lunar full moon on 5th February which also called conjunction between Moon - Earth - Sun. In the other hand, there will be a conjunction between Sun - Venus - Jupiter as well as Mercury - Sun - Uranus on 6th February.

No clear evidence

The relationship between planetary alignments and seismic activity is still a topic of scientific debate, and while some researchers have suggested that there may be a correlation between the two, there is no widely accepted evidence to support this claim.

There have been some studies that have looked for potential links between planetary alignments and earthquake activity, but the results have been inconclusive, with no clear evidence of a consistent pattern. In general, the vast majority of earthquakes are caused by the movement and shifting of tectonic plates in the Earth's crust, as well as other geological factors.
